Ubuntu 10.04 will bring panel overhaul, social network menu

Canonical has revealed plans to bring social networking integration and GNOME panel improvements in the next major version of Ubuntu. Notification area icons will be replaced by a new application indicator system. The panel will also feature a new Me Menu for setting messaging status.

Canonical has lifted the curtains on some ambitious plans to reinvent the GNOME panel. The changes, which could potentially debut in the next major version of Ubuntu, will help simplify the desktop user experience and clean up superfluous panel clutter. Although the proposed changes look very promising, getting third-party application developers to integrate with the new panel functionality could prove challenging.

Nokia Messaging for Social Messaging Beta, also for twitter

First launched in September 2009, Nokia Messaging team has released  the second beta of Nokia Messaging for Social Networks and guess what? It now supports Twitter as well, making tweeting way more convenient from the homescreen if you are using an N97 or the recently launched N97 Mini.

Apart from Twitter Integration, many other things such as uploading pictures and video, viewing upcoming events on Facebook, importing birthdays to the device’s calendar, searching friends and Click-to-call / click-to-SMS / click-to-FB Email etc has been added.
